The Keto Diet: My Perspective as a Nutrition Professional

Over the past few years, I’ve had countless conversations with clients and colleagues about the ketogenic diet.

It’s one of the most debated and misunderstood approaches to nutrition.

So, I wanted to share a balanced perspective based on both science and real-life experiences.

Benefits I’ve observed with some clients:

•	✅ Noticeable fat loss when the diet is well-structured.
•	✅ Improved energy stability, especially for those who struggle with blood sugar fluctuations.
•	✅ Better mental clarity in some individuals once they adapt to ketosis.

But I’ve also seen challenges:

•	⚠️ Nutrient gaps due to limited food variety.
•	⚠️ Difficulty in long-term adherence, especially in social or cultural settings.
•	⚠️ Side effects during the transition phase — the infamous “keto flu”.
•	⚠️ Rapid weight regain once people return to regular eating patterns sometimes gaining even more than before.

➡️ This highlights a key issue:

unsustainable dieting often leads to a cycle of loss and regain, both physically and emotionally.

My takeaway:

From my experience as a clinical nutritionist specialized in weight management, therapeutic nutrition and chronic disease management, with over 11 years of professional practice, I can confidently say that while the keto diet can be effective in specific medical cases, it’s not a sustainable long-term solution for most people.

A balanced, flexible, and enjoyable approach to eating remains the healthiest and most sustainable choice.

If you’re considering keto, make sure it’s the right fit for your body and lifestyle — and always seek professional guidance.
