Helicobacter pylori

📌 What is Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori)?

♦️Helicobacter pylori is a spiral-shaped bacterium that lives in the stomach lining.

Approximately 50% of people worldwide may be infected, but it only causes symptoms and problems in some individuals.

â• Causes of infection:

▫️Transmission through contaminated food or drink.

▫️Using shared eating utensils without washing them properly.

▫️Poor personal hygiene (such as not washing hands before eating).

▫️Sometimes the infection can persist from childhood without the person realizing it until later.

â• Possible Symptoms:

▫️ Stomach pain or heartburn, especially on an empty stomach 🤕 ▫️ Bloating and gas ▫️ Nausea or vomiting ▫️ Loss of appetite or weight loss ▫️ Bad breath

â• The Role of Nutrition in Managing H. pylori:

♦️ Nutrition is not a primary treatment (treatment involves antibiotics and antacids), but food can help alleviate symptoms and prevent stomach irritation.

â• Beneficial Foods:

▫️ Leafy green and colorful vegetables: broccoli, arugula, spinach → powerful antioxidants.

▫️ Fruits rich in vitamin C: oranges, kiwis, strawberries → boost immunity.

▫️ Yogurt and buttermilk: a source of probiotics that help balance gut bacteria.

▫️ Garlic and onions: natural antibacterial properties (but use with caution if you have severe acidity).

▫️ Green tea: Rich in antioxidants.

▫️ Fatty fish: Omega-3 fatty acids reduce inflammation.

â• Foods to avoid:

▫️ Spicy and fried foods → Increase stomach irritation.

▫️ Fast food and heavy fats → Slow digestion.

▫️ Caffeine (coffee/black tea) → Increases acidity.

▫️ Carbonated drinks → Cause bloating and acid reflux.

▫️ Chocolate → May worsen symptoms in some people.

▫️ Smoking and alcohol → Increase the risk of complications.

â• Golden tips:

▫️ Divide your meals into 5-6 small meals instead of 2 or 3 large ones.

▫️ Drink plenty of water (8 glasses a day).

▫️ Reduce stress as it worsens symptoms.

▫️ Avoid lying down immediately after eating.

▫️Adhere to the medication prescribed by your doctor + a healthy diet.

â•In summary:

▫️Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) is a widespread problem, but it can be controlled with treatment + a smart diet. Eating is not only preventative, but also plays a crucial role in reducing pain and preventing stomach irritation.
