45 minutes of art making

We’ve been taught to approach stress cognitively. Think it through. Reframe it. Solve it. But your nervous system doesn’t wait for your thoughts to organize. In a study published in the Art Therapy Journal, just 45 minutes of art-making led to reduced cortisol levels in the majority of participants regardless of their artistic capabilities.

This study challenges a core assumption: that regulation starts with thinking. It doesn’t. It often starts with the body and this is where art becomes a structured way to shift internal states, before you even put them into words.
